Trials of the Bloodstone is an epic dark fantasy novel that spins a grand tale about a mysterious clan that are seeking to rescue their queen who is being held captive by an unknown powerful entity. They will attempt to rescue their clan member by finding a powerful artifact known as the Bloodstone to aid them. When main character Davarian is assigned the task by his clan to find the Bloodstone he finds himself traveling alongside with a mysterious member of his own society as well as an unlikely band of bounty hunters that he does not trust. Davarian does not realize however he will find himself knee deep in dragons, alien creatures, and dark evil powers all looking stop him on his quest to secure the Bloodstone and to free his queen who is also his beloved.

Excerpt The face of the individual staring back at her was completely bald with huge bulging eyes that looked as if they were going to pop out their sockets. Red vein like lines surrounded the pupils which were burning blood red in color.

The skin on the face was stretched and pulled so tightly across the skull she couldn't believe it didn't just split in half. The mouth was the most disturbing visage for it was wide open as if in a permanent scream of sheer terror and had absolutely no teeth in the mouth.

She tried to pull away so she could turn around and run but the formerly warm and inviting touch was now gripping her like death itself in a hold that was so painful she fell down to her knees.

A feeling of terror over came her so greatly that she couldn't help but pull her knees up to her chest and with the arm that wasn't being grasped by the thing that had her she wrapped it around her pulled in legs.

She began to rock back and forth uncontrollably and then she heard it...a loud and menacing laugh that didn't come from the one that had its hold on her...but from the very mists itself....

Trials of the Bloodstone is one of the best dark fantasy books I have read in a long time. The author does a fantastic job in keeping the reader guessing throughout the entire story as to what is going to happen next, and this keeps the reader invested in the book, wanting to know what will happen in each chapter.

The characters are excellently thought out and spring to life each in their own way. The book has several different main characters, and the view point of the story is told through their perspectives. The author is able to keep the flow of the story moving despite having so many characters, and I was not at any point confused or wondering what was going as the events were well detailed and described.

One of my favorite characters, a red dragon named Gurganextus was a joy to read, not only because he was written as I would see a red dragon being all full of greed, inner rage, and a sense of superiority overall beings, but there were times in the story where the reader actually gets a sneak peak at Gurganextus's softer side and sense of reflection upon himself. This was the beauty of the characters, each one had their own life like personality, morals, and motivations that led them through the story.

I cannot describe much of the plot without giving away spoilers, but most of the story revolves around a clan that has been pushed out of their castle home and one of their members had been captured and held prisoner by the entity that caused the clan to flee. The clan needs a powerful relic called the Bloodstone in the possession of said red dragon Gurganextus, in order to help them overcome the entity, free their clan mate, and then retake their home once again.

The story is held together by suspense and intrigue so much that by saying anything beyond that will really ruin the plot for those who may not have read it yet.

A certainly fantastic read, though my only complaint were some minor editing problems such as misspellings and run on sentences. They weren't enough to distract from the book though, since the story flowed so well.

I have heard that the publisher of this book has even gone back and re-edited this book extensively, and the ebook and kindle versions are the updated volumes with the paper re-edited version supposedly coming out not too long in the future.

I highly recommend this book for any fantasy or dark fantasy fan.
